When you start thinking about what you want for your wedding favors, it’s important that you start with a few general ideas that you can do a lot with, narrow it down to a few choices, and then customize it to your wedding! The perfect wedding favors are ones that are beautiful, fun, and something that your guests will treasure! Remember, this is how your guests will remember your day for perhaps years to come so make sure that they properly reflect your wedding! Here are some ideas to get you started.

Candy and Chocolate

You can never go wrong with giving your guests some sweet treats and we’ve all been to a wedding where we received the small pastel mints wrapped up in tulle. This is a great wedding tradition but if you want to put your own twist on it, wrap up M&M’s that are of course, in your wedding colors, or use cinnamon hearts or Hershey Kisses. If you want to make this look a bit more elegant, buy small boxes and place inside 4 Belgian chocolates. Attach a small tag thanking your guests and word it something such as, “You’ve made our day extra sweet by being a part of it!”

Plants or Seeds

As the world continues to think about ‘Going Green’, plants and seeds are becoming more popular than ever as wedding favors. You can give your guests a package of seeds with a custom label that shows your photo, your names, and the date of your wedding or you can give them an actual plant! If you have a certain kind of plant at your wedding such as poinsettias for a Christmas wedding, you may consider giving miniature poinsettias with a custom label on the pot. For spring weddings, consider planting a seed inside of a small pot so your guest will be able to enjoy watching it grow!

Tea, Cocoa, or Coffee

You can buy Mason jars with screw-top lids (get the kind with metal wire for a real old-time look) and fill them with aromatic coffee beans or cocoa powder. If you fill them with cocoa, attach a bag of marshmallows wrapped in tulle so your guests can really enjoy it! Filling the jar with tea can also be a great way to give your guests a favor. Choose your favorite tea and buy the loose leaves then fill the jars up with them. Customize your label by printing brewing instructions on one side and your names and wedding date on the other.

Picture Frames

Picture frames make great wedding favors and there’s so much you can do with them! Buy simple and elegant frames and place your engagement photo in it or use them as a place card and then give them to your guests to take home! Or you can get keychain picture frames or magnet picture frames. These are generally inexpensive options that you can find just about anywhere!

Wedding favors can be as much as $5 a piece and while this may not sound like very much money to you, even if you have a small wedding with only 50 guests, that’s still $250 that could be spent elsewhere! Cheap wedding favors are entirely possible and just because they didn’t break your bank, it doesn’t mean they can’t still look great!

There’s no way around it – weddings cost a lot of money and even a small affair can cost a small fortune. Throughout the entire wedding planning process, you’ll no doubt forever be looking for ways to cut costs and your wedding favors is one area where you can definitely get away with skimming some costs. If you’re a do-it-yourselfer you can take a go at making favors that are fun and look like a million bucks but if you’re not so crafty, you’ll still find tons of wedding reception favors that won’t break the bank!

Fortune Cookies

While you can custom-order these to be specially designed with a wedding message inside, these costs can quickly rise up. But you can make your own by buying fortune cookies in bulk, which is extremely cheap, and typing up small thank you messages. Insert your typed message and insert it into the cookie. Your guests will get a fortune and a personal wedding message from you. Plus, you’ll be saving a fortune too!

Sand and Seashells

Perfect for the summer or beach wedding, sand and seashells are always fun and romantic wedding favors. Just about any wedding favor retailer will have plenty of these types of favors in stock so look online to get some ideas of what you like but don’t buy the favors there. Instead, go to the local beach and spend a fun day with your fiancé collecting sand and seashells to make the favors. Buy small tin pails to put the sand and seashells in or wrap seashells in tulle that’s tied with a satin ribbon. Don’t forget to soak the shells in an antibacterial soap overnight and check to make sure that you won’t be breaking any bylaws by taking the sand and shells off the beach.

Mini Liqueurs

Find a liqueur retailer that will sell you tiny bottles of liqueur at a discount price. Tailor the liqueur to your wedding so if you’re having a summer wedding, choose something light while going with something hearty for a winter wedding. Customize labels yourself on your home computer with your photo, name, and date of your wedding and attach a small label that says, “A Toast to….” and fill in your guest’s name.

CDs

It’s becoming very popular to put your favorite love songs on a CD and hand them out to your guests as personal wedding favors. Put your own spin on this idea by compiling a group of photos of you and your fiancé, from the time you were young as individuals all the way through to planning the wedding together. Place them all on a CD so your friends can see how the two of you have grown to be together or better yet, put them into a slideshow with your wedding song playing in the background. This will be a very special wedding favor for your guests!

Message in a Bottle

Another great idea for a summer or beach wedding! Purchase tiny glass bottles in bulk, which will be very cheap and print off wedding and thank you messages from your computer. Roll up the messages like scrolls and slip them into the bottle. (If you have some sand and seashells, you can put them in here too!) Wrap coil wire or chain around the bottle to give it a truly authentic feel and don’t forget to cork them!

The key to great spring and summer wedding favors is to play on the theme of your wedding and to also use seasonal elements so that your favors will be fun, beautiful, and will leave your guests with vivid memories of your wedding. Elements from nature such as seeds, robin’s eggs, and flowers are very popular for spring weddings while summer weddings generally see more beach-themed favors and favors focusing on summer activities, such as barbecuing. Of course choosing items such as flowers are always appropriate for a summer wedding as well and candles and soaps can be carved into just about any shape to fit any wedding, no matter the season! When you’re choosing your spring and summer wedding favors, the most important thing to remember is that they are playful, show your personality, and that they are the perfect memento of the day for your guests!

Spring Wedding Favors

Seeds are one of the most popular spring wedding favors that couples hand out but you can play on this idea in many ways and shape it so that it’s unique to your wedding. Give your guests a pot of ‘magic beans.’ Using small pots, place a small clay-molded bean sprout and place it in the ‘dirt’ (can also be molded clay or simply torn brown paper). Also sprinkle some bean seeds on top of the dirt with the word ‘love’ painted on them. Decorate the pot with a label featuring a photo of the two of you, your names, and the date of your wedding.

You can also give your guests seed packets with customized labels or give them small flowers that have already started to bloom that they can keep as a potted plant or take home and put in their garden!

Summer Wedding Favors

Summer wedding favors generally focus on aspects such as the beach, barbecuing, and sailing. You can use these elements in just about any favor. Using small tea lights, look for barbecue candle holder sets that feature a small grill and barbecue tools, with the candle sitting right inside the grill! You can also give your guests flip-flops in just about any design, whether you want notepads or keychains and beach chair candle holders also always make for great summer wedding favors. Be sure to customize whatever you want to use by including your names, a picture, if possible, and the date of your wedding.

Favor Holders

You can create your own favors by finding fun containers and filling them with chocolate, candy, nuts, or other fun stuff! Find small tin pails for your spring wedding and fill them up with pastel after-dinner mints or find small beach pails and stuff them with seashell-shaped soap for a summer wedding. These favor holders can generally be found very cheap and if you buy your favors in bulk, you can simply stuff and wrap them yourself. Not only are they super cute but they could also save you a lot of money! Be sure to decorate the outside of the container with flowers, seashells, or Easter eggs!

When your guests have taken a great amount of time and effort to come to your destination wedding, it’s especially important that you show your gratitude by giving them some really great travel wedding favors. There are tons of great ideas for these kinds of favors and one of the best things about them is not only can you still make them pretty and playful but they can also be very practical too, which will add to your guests wedding and travel experience! Here are our best brainstorming ideas for your perfect travel wedding favors.

Luggage Tags

Give your guests an easy way to find their luggage upon their return home! You can find these in just about design that you could ask for whether you want a chromed masculine look or pretty pink tags with embossed entwining hearts. If your destination wedding is on a beach you might want to think about flip-flop luggage tags or if you’re having your wedding aboard a cruise ship, you might want to think about getting tags with these designs for your guests!

Travel Items

Of course, travel items are always necessary and these are a no-brainer when it comes to your travel wedding favors. The best thing about these kinds of favors is that you’ll be giving your guests something practical that they can use right away! Small scents of sunscreen bottles that have deliciously romantic smells, such as strawberry or mocha, can make great gifts for when your guests are hitting the beach the next day or give them small tin candles that open to reveal a small tea light but can be closed back up for travel purposes. Silk travel pillows with your initials or names embroidered on them can also make for nice travel wedding favors as can travel mints with a custom label showing your wedding details.

Another great idea when you’re thinking of travel items that you can use for favors is to put together a small travel snack set for your guests and place it all in a customized favor box. Stuff it with small travel packs of playing cards as well as bottled water, small bags of peanuts or chips, and some mints! Your guests will still be thinking of your wedding on their flight home!

Favor Boxes

When it comes time to wrap your travel wedding favors up, think of very unique travel ideas that you could use to make it even more fun and in keeping with the travel theme. Buy small suitcase favors that can be stuffed with mints or candies or find a small box designed in the shape of an airplane or a boat and also place small favors inside these. You can also choose a box that’s designed to look like a passport and stuff this with great favor items!

There’s a certain charm about the Ol’ West that you can bring about through every detail of your country and western wedding and the favors can exude this charm as well as add another playful aspect to your wedding. Getting creative with these types of favors is easy! Simply pick out your favorite element of your country and western theme and fly with it! Whether you’re a cowgirl at heart, love cowboys, or simply love the combination of colors this theme brings, lend that passion to your favors and guests will love to keep them for years to come!

Colors

Colors can really make a country and western theme and it’s easy to bring these colors into your favors. White, black, silver, deep reds, green, and blue are all great country western colors. Play up on the color silver by giving your guests shiny sheriff badges engraved with your names and the date of your wedding tied to a small silver cowboy boots charm. You could also choose bold solid colors such as red or green and give your guests bandanas that are these colors. Have the date of the wedding and your names and each bandana.

Cowboy Boots and Cowboy Hats

Of course looking towards the country western attire is one of the most obvious choices for country and western wedding favors and again, this is an area where you could do just about anything. All it takes is a little imagination! You can turn just about anything into a cowboy hat or boots including key chains (consider photo keychains and put your engagement photo inside!), bottle openers, or soap shaped like boots or a hat. You can also consider filling these things with just about anything such as candy corn, nuts, or sweet kettle corn.

Food

Food always makes for great wedding favors and because the west is known for their finger-lickin’ food, it’s no surprise that this is another area where you’ll have tons of options. Use Mason jars (just like the cowboys like to drink from) and fill them up with candy or nuts, hot sauce (a western favorite) with the date of your wedding and a photo of the two of you on the label, small ‘feed’ pails filled with candy or mints, candy shaped into cowboy boots, hats, and cacti.

Entertainment

There’s a reason that old western movies and country music is so popular – because people are fascinated by country western lifestyle and culture. Providing country western wedding favors isn’t difficult either. Put together a CD of your favorite country western love songs and customize a label complete with your picture, your names, and the date of your wedding. You can also pick out a classic country western romance novel such as Tall, Dark, and Texan. Just be sure to make it unique to your wedding somehow such as inserting each with a bookmark featuring your engagement photo, your name, and the date of your wedding.
