Timing is everything when planning a wedding. Deciding when to marry isn’t always easy and there are challenges and perks to every time of year. Here’s a look at each season to help you decide the right time for you.

Summer

Summer is by far the most popular season to get married. Due to this popularity, venues are harder to book and you will have to compete with other couples for wedding vendors as well. Guests may be on summer vacation and as a consequence unavailable. For those couples looking for a unique wedding that their guests will always remember, summer may be the least appropriate time to marry.

However, it is the most popular season to be wed for a reason. Holding your wedding in the summer opens you up to all kinds of possibilities. The weather is likely to be better so if you’ve always dreamed of being married on a beach, garden or park you may want to get married in the summer. June is particularly popular perhaps as it’s the month of the Roman Goddess of marriage, Juno, who it was once said would protect those who marry in June.

Fall

Fall is a beautiful time to be married but here too, there are challenges. For areas that have early winters, the weather may be unpredictable. However, the colors available for a fall wedding are rich, deep, and magnificent. Plan your wedding around shades of oranges, yellows, purples, and reds and include fantastic centerpieces such as pumpkins or gourds.

You can carry the colors through to your dress and wear an elegant copper sash with your white gown or dress your bridesmaids in wonderful earthy tones. While wonderful color schemes are available for any season, fall provides colors of warmth, which will give your wedding a welcoming, cozy feel.

Winter

Tying the knot in a winter wonderland can make for a fairytale wedding. Winter marks the turn of the year. A wonderful possibility is to begin the New Year with your new husband. Every year from then on would start with an anniversary celebration.

However, getting married in the winter does bring its limitations. You may be restricted with where you can hold your ceremony. If you’re planning to hold your wedding around Christmas or New Year’s, you will probably also have to pay a little more for whatever venue you choose. Out-of-town guests may find they have problems getting to the ceremony or reception sites and vendor logistics on the wedding day may be a little more difficult.

Spring

Spring marks new beginnings, the perfect sentiment for a marriage. An abundance of fresh flora and a warmer climate can create the perfect backdrop for your wedding. Remember spring can also bring winds and rain, especially in April and May.

Destination weddings are becoming popular. If you have always dreamed of running away to be married, consider fall or winter instead of the summer or spring. Although the climate in tropical destinations is not as hot as it would be in the summer, it is still very warm in months such as May.

It is helpful to know what you can expect from a season so you can avoid pitfalls and benefit from its advantages. Remember, whatever season you choose, it’s not about the weather but about what the day represents – starting a new life, married to the person you love.
