Planning A Wedding At Short Notice

Posted by admin in category Wedding Planning

It’s easy to become overwhelmed with the thought of planning a wedding at short notice. Generally, people are given several months to book halls and caterers as well as confirm people for their wedding party and do all the other various things that go along with planning a wedding. It can seem simply impossible to do it all within a year or less. But planning a wedding in very little time can certainly be done and for every obstacle, there is an answer. You might need to be a bit more innovative in your thinking but once you open the door of creativity, you’ll have the wedding planned in no time at all!

Where to Have the Wedding

One of the first things you must do with any wedding is book the venue where you will be having the ceremony and reception. This is mostly because they fill up so quickly and have long waiting periods and also because you’ll need to tailor other wedding details towards to the venue. The case is no different with the wedding you’re planning but it might be difficult to find a venue that has an available date in the near future. If you can’t find a hall, chapel, or other venue that you like or you simply want to have a unique setting for your wedding you can consider having it in a friend’s backyard or in a public space such as a beach or a park, which don’t need to be rented in advance.

Do-It-Yourself Projects

Weddings planned at short notice are all about do-it-yourself projects. The reason is simple: because you simple don’t have time to order invitations, proof them, wait for them to arrive in the mail, and then address and send them. So find any wedding-related projects that can be done with your own two hands and grab some girlfriends and family members to help. Print out your own invitations and create your own personalized favors such as CDs filled with songs that were played at the wedding.

Lessen the Number of People

The more people you have involved in a wedding, the more complicated it becomes. If you are serving a crowd of 200 at your reception, you need to take into consideration special menus such as vegetarian and other issues such as allergies. You also need to wait for people to RSVP and maybe even state a preference of meal. All of this takes time. Reduce the number on your guest list to only those that absolutely must be there, such as your family and closest friends. Also limit the wedding party to only the maid of honor and the best man. This will also free up time as extra attendants require extra fittings. Not only will these alone take time but you will also be at the mercy of other people’s schedules.

Keep it Simple

Simplicity is key when planning a wedding at short notice. Take into consideration how you can simplify everything such as the drinks you will be serving. If you were planning on toasting with champagne and having a small open bar, do you need a license and permit for those? If you’re holding the wedding in a friend’s backyard, is there a capacity on the number of people allowed and do you need parking permits? Chances are if you’re keeping it simple, you won’t need to worry about any of this!
