If you’re a do-it-yourselfer you can take a go at making favors that are fun and look like a million bucks but if you’re not so crafty, you’ll still find tons of wedding reception favors that won’t break the bank!
Fortune Cookies
While you can custom-order these to be specially designed with a wedding message inside, these costs can quickly rise up. But you can make your own by buying fortune cookies in bulk, which is extremely cheap, and typing up small thank you messages. Insert your typed message and insert it into the cookie. Your guests will get a fortune and a personal wedding message from you. Plus, you’ll be saving a fortune too!
Sand and Seashells
Perfect for the summer or beach wedding, sand and seashells are always fun and romantic wedding favors. Just about any wedding favor retailer will have plenty of these types of favors in stock so look online to get some ideas of what you like but don’t buy the favors there. Instead, go to the local beach and spend a fun day with your fiancĂ© collecting sand and seashells to make the favors. Buy small tin pails to put the sand and seashells in or wrap seashells in tulle that’s tied with a satin ribbon. Don’t forget to soak the shells in an antibacterial soap overnight and check to make sure that you won’t be breaking any bylaws by taking the sand and shells off the beach.
Mini Liqueurs
Find a liqueur retailer that will sell you tiny bottles of liqueur at a discount price. Tailor the liqueur to your wedding so if you’re having a summer wedding, choose something light while going with something hearty for a winter wedding. Customize labels yourself on your home computer with your photo, name, and date of your wedding and attach a small label that says, “A Toast to….” and fill in your guest’s name.
CDs
It’s becoming very popular to put your favorite love songs on a CD and hand them out to your guests as personal wedding favors. Put your own spin on this idea by compiling a group of photos of you and your fiancĂ©, from the time you were young as individuals all the way through to planning the wedding together. Place them all on a CD so your friends can see how the two of you have grown to be together or better yet, put them into a slideshow with your wedding song playing in the background. This will be a very special wedding favor for your guests!
Message in a Bottle
Another great idea for a summer or beach wedding! Purchase tiny glass bottles in bulk, which will be very cheap and print off wedding and thank you messages from your computer. Roll up the messages like scrolls and slip them into the bottle. (If you have some sand and seashells, you can put them in here too!) Wrap coil wire or chain around the bottle to give it a truly authentic feel and don’t forget to cork them!
